A libero can be any height. Typically, liberos are shorter as they tend to be quicker and closer to the ground allowing them to pick up more balls. However, some of the best liberos in the world can get up to 6″2 or even taller. Being taller allows you to cover more ground.
The position of libero/defensive specialist has the lowest height requirement for the NCSA. Tier one players must be at least 5 feet tall. The range tier 1 is 5 feet, 5 inches to 6 feet for upper levels and 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches for mid-lower levels.
seems like libero position is becoming a much more athletic position. Smaller outside hitters are converting more and more to the libero spot. Liberos seem to average about 6 feet, while many of them are under but still there are your big ones like Rich Lambourne(6'5")
But I see that most if not all liberos are short. I disagree with this. Most liberos are short comparatively, but they aren't actually short. A lot of the international liberos are in that 6'2-6'4 range.
No, height doesnt matter for Libero. The only thing that matters is your passing skill, and much of that is being able to predict where the ball is being hit.. Nothing to do with height and dont listen to people who say otherwise. Playing middle is another story, but passing is technique and speed, not reach. 3.
Sometimes playing libero really will be your only option for being competitive on the court at the higher levels. . But for me, the libero position is an opportunity for short players (and by short, I really mean sub-6 foot) to compete at the highest level in what is often a tall person's game. .
